Leilani O'Malley (nee Muir)
was born in 1944.
In 1955, she was sent to the Provincial Training School (now called Michener Centre).
In 1959, a doctor sterilized her (made it so that she could not have children).

In 1965, Leilani left the Provincial Training School.
Later, she got married.
She started to speak out about what was done to her.

In 1995 Leilani took the government of Alberta to court.
She said it was wrong to sterialize her.
Leilani won her case.

Because of Leilani, over 700 other people spoke up.
They said it was wrong to sterialize them, too.
So the court gave them money.

In 1996 a movie The Sterialization of Leilani Muir was made about how she fought for her rights.
In 1997 she went to Paris, France to speak about her story.
Now Leilani is writing a book about her life.
